It was also suggested that this year this should start & finish is the south of the county near the M6 (probably the Crooklands Hotel). This should make it easier for other regions and hopefully reduce the ‘peeling off’ thus keeping a larger group together for the final ‘Hostelry’ stop. Andrew has some ideas for the route.

Last years event at The Garstang Country Hotel & Golf Club had been excellent & thoroughly enjoyed by those who had attended.  So it was decided to re-book for this year. If the weather is kind to us, and the hangovers not too bad there will be a run out on the Sunday over the Trough of Bowland with a mid afternoon meal stop. Details of this run will be posted on our Regional Forum for those not at the Christmas do but wanting to do the run.

The start will be from Garstang and there will be a contact number posted for checking that the run is on but PLEASE no early calls!

Other suggested Events
  • As a memorial to Andrew, the young man who joined us on the White Heather Run, and has since sadly died from a Brain Tumour; Philip Corkhill suggested we contact The Children Cancer Centre at Newcastle to see if it was possible to offer other youngsters going through cancer treatment or suffering terminally illnesses the opportunity of a drive in a TVR.  Whilst there was unanimous agreement Club Members would be willing to support such a venture there was uncertainty that this would be permissible.  Contact will be made with The Cancer Center in the first instance.
  • Phil Corkhill also suggested an event at Rowrah Go-Karting track. This would be on a weekday & would cost £130.00 hire for the track (to be divided by the number attending) and £30.00 per car. There would only be one car on the track at a time and it is reckoned that the maximum speed achieved would be 80MPH.
The hire of Go-Carts was discussed but I feel that to do so would be on opportunity lost (there are already plans for a carting event too).
This event would be an excellent chance to have a cheap, non competitive track experience and would be ideal for first timers. If you have any interest in this please let me know ASAP.
  • Following Phillip’s enjoyable Seaside Run & BBQ last year, Andrew Matthews offered to do a similar event at his B&B, with swimming pool, in Keswick . This could be on an evening meeting night or a Sunday afternoon.
  • It was suggested that we have a carting ‘Grand Prix’ event at Maryport some time in March and possibly another carting event, possibly with the Porsche Club, towards the back end of the year. Campbell Muir is looking into prices etc.
  • There was also a general discussion on how best to plan both weekday & weekend runs, throughout the year.  The idea of Sunday Runs on the 4th Sunday of the month throughout summer, starting at different parts of the county, was discussed however it was acknowledged that it can be disappointing and frustrating when weather conditions determine the numbers of cars that turn out for a planned run.  This is especially so when, for example, lunch is being booked.
  • Some members suggested runs could be arranged on a more “ad hoc” basis. For example if a good weekend or summer evening is forecasted any member can opt to plan and lead a run.  There would need to be rapid contact method & this could be via email or text.  Obviously not all members would be able to respond to all “run out alerts” but it would mean if you were around and at a loose end you could meet up for a blat!
  • The practicalities of this were discussed and it was generally agreed that if a members distribution list was collated this could be tried but that it wouldn’t be in “place of” planned runs but be “as well as”. If you know of someone that may wish to be included on this list please ask them to let me have their email address & best contact number (obviously if you have received this I have your email address but it would be advantageous to have your preferred telephone number). Please be aware that this information will be shared with members of the group but not with any 3rd parties. You will be able to opt out of the group at any time and your details will be removed from the list.
  • Anyone who wishes to plan a run on a fixed date in the 2007 calendar is encouraged to so and should discuss this with the RO either by email or at the next meeting
